After Ethan's awful encounter with our furry friend, we headed over to the store that night to get mouse traps. They had a limited selection so we had two options: either buy a metal trap with jagged teeth that would smash the little critter and be a mess to clean up OR buy some glue. We chose the glue. Ethan made traps with peanut butter and glue on pieces of cardboard and placed one in the spare room (where he had trapped the mouse) and the other in the kitchen (in case it had any friends). And then all we could do was wait ... and make a lot of noise before entering any room so that any unwelcome visitors could quickly disappear. Ethan was eager to see the fruit of his labor, and sure enough, early the next morning he found the peanut butter eaten up and the mouse stuck to the cardboard squirming to get free. Our houseworker took the piece of cardboard (with the mouse still attached) and gave it to our building's guard, and he threw it outside to be some stray animal's breakfast. Success!!
Or so we thought ...
Since Sunday there have been sightings of at least two more mice in the house. Nooooo!! I saw one squeeze through the cracks of a loose tile under our bathtub on Tuesday which I made Ethan quickly seal up, and I thought I saw another one earlier today while in the kitchen. I was about to pass off today's sighting as paranoia, but then I heard Ethan yell that there was a mouse in the kitchen and how it was now in the living room. Great, just great=( He put out a few more traps in that area and within maybe 30 min. he caught this little guy:
Ugh! So gross! Now we're debating whether or not we should put more traps like this around our place. Shall we attempt to catch the rest of the critters that seem to have already made themselves at home here, or will we actually just end up attracting all of its family and neighborhood friends with a tasty meal of peanut butter?

One of My Worst Fears Realized...
Reaching down to the bottom kitchen shelf, I pulled out some plastic bags to get to a box buried in the back. There was some rustling from the bags and then something fell out, hit my arm, and proceeded to roll down the hall. After my eyes came into focus on the dark object that hit my arm, my stomach was ready to jump out of my throat and my body went numb. The only thing I could think of in my head was, "Oh no! Not here in Djibouti!" Yet there it was=( My eyes fixed on two little hind legs and a little tail scampering down the hall making a sharp right into the bathroom. Another thought quickly flashed through my head ... "It touched me!!!" After a few months of hanging in there with lizards, giant cockroaches, ants, and mosquitoes, why not just add a mouse to the list of roommates?
